Beaujolais crus or Beaujolais Nouveau ?

Beaujolais wines are still too often associated solely with Beaujolais Nouveau, and yet the Beaujolais region has much more to offer.

This region is the home of Gamay . This red grape variety is very fruity and low in tannins. It allows for the production of easy-drinking and light wines , as well as bottles capable of aging for more than 10 years.

For casual occasions, if you're looking for an easy-drinking wine , opt for a Beaujolais-Nouveau or a Beaujolais-Villages . They'll complement your aperitifs and impromptu meals with friends. They're also perfect for summer barbecues.

We also recommend exploring the Beaujolais wines . You can make some excellent discoveries at very attractive prices. The wines of Morgons And Moulin-à-Vent are wines meant for aging . These red wines are full-bodied, more tannic, and intense. They can easily age for ten years (if you have the patience to wait). These are high-quality bottles at very affordable prices . We offer Morgon wines. Chiroubles ,... to be discovered here .

In the Fleurié region , wines are produced with a beautiful aromatic intensity of red fruits and flowers. As for Chiroubles and Saint-Amour , the wines are lighter and more delicate.

With its diverse terroirs, the Beaujolais region offers wines for all occasions that will appeal to all red wine lovers.

Beaujolais grape varieties

Beaujolais is the home of Gamay Noir . It is in the Beaujolais region that Gamay reaches its full potential. It allows for the production of wines of great purity, intense and fruity . It is a relatively uncommon grape variety, rarely found outside this region. Gamay has made Beaujolais wines famous.

Although the region produces almost exclusively red wines (98%), some winemakers also cultivate Chardonnay. This grape variety yields great white wines with notes of citrus, honey, or white flowers.

Terroir of the Beaujolais region

The Beaujolais region boasts one of the most diverse soils in the French wine region. Within a relatively small area, there are over 73 different soil types . This allows Gamay to express itself in a wide range of ways, producing wines with distinct profiles depending on the terroir. The temperate climate also contributes to the excellent development of the vines.

In the south of the region, the soils are mainly clay-limestone . The wines are more opulent and sun-drenched.

In the north, the soils are predominantly granitic . It is in this part of the region that the Beaujolais-Villages and Beaujolais Crus appellations are found. The wines are fruity and intense, with excellent aging potential.
